Here are some of my favorite classics now, that I refused to read in high-school:
1. Fahrenheit 451 by: Ray Bradbury.
This is such an amazing book! It takes you to a whole new world where books are illegal and firefighters jobs are now to burn any and all books and the houses containing the books. It is a dystopian novel (my favorite!). It shows you just how far people would go to get their hands on books and tell the world about them, and also how far the people in charge will go to maintain order.
2. The Great Gatsby by: F. Scott Fitzgerald
This takes you back to the 1920 jazz days, where an old man, Mr. Gatsby, loves to throw parties for people, but hardly makes an appearance. He is a very mysterious man who is in love with a woman named Daisy Buchanan.
3. Jane Eyre by: Charlotte Bronte
A young woman named Jane is raised with a horrible aunt, until the aunt sends her off to a private school. Here Jane grown into a woman of her own until she is hired on at an estate. Jane is unlike anyone that the master of the estate has ever met. The master seems to be a very cold person, but you watch him develop as a character in this book. This is a story of a love hate relationship between the master and Jane.
4. Pride and Prejudice by: Jane Austen
An odd romance between a cruel young man, and a free spirited young woman. Taking you through all of the ups and downs and the love and hate. This is a witty comedy along with a historical romance all in one great story.
